The Korea Foundation for Disabled [[KSTERM:문화]] Arts (Chairperson Bang Gwi-hee) is presenting a variety of [[KSTERM:문화예술]] [[KSTERM:행사]], encompassing exhibitions and [[KSTERM:공연]], at Daehak-ro Ieum Center, Modoo Art Space, and Modoo Arts Theater to commemorate Disabled Persons’ Day (April 20).
This initiative, unfolding across three venues, is designed to showcase diverse facets of [[KSTERM:장애예술]] art. From a historical exhibition that looks back at records, to a [[KSTERM:기획전]] exploring the meaning of relationships and collaboration, and even [[KSTERM:공연]] that directly engage the audience, [[KSTERM:장애예술]] art can be experienced in various ways.
◇ ‘[[KSTERM:장애예술]] Artists History Exhibition – People Who Became Paths’ (April 20 – May 10 / Ieum Center)
At Daehak-ro Ieum Center, the April 20 to May 10 [[KSTERM:기획전]] special exhibition ‘[[KSTERM:장애예술]] Artists History Exhibition – People Who Became Paths’ will be held. This exhibition is Korea’s first archival exhibition, exploring the lives and art of first-generation [[KSTERM:장애예술]] artists from the Joseon Dynasty through modern and contemporary times. Focusing on 38 individuals, it examines the historical flow of [[KSTERM:장애예술]] and, based on records and historical materials, shows how [[KSTERM:장애예술]] has continued through the ages. Furthermore, it is significant in that it lays the foundation for building a [[KSTERM:장애예술]] archive.
◇ [[KSTERM:기획전]] ‘The Art of Relationship: Willingly Leaning on Each Other’ (April 16 – May 23 / Modoo Art Space)
At Modoo Art Space, the April 1 [[KSTERM:기획전]] from special exhibition ‘The Art of Relationship: Willingly Leaning on Each Other’ will open. This [[KSTERM:장애예술]] disabled art exhibition views disabled art not just as individual achievement but from the perspective of ‘relationship’ and ‘collaboration,’ exploring the possibilities of creation expanded through close solidarity. Six artists and teams, including Kim Jin-woo, Dungji, and Raumcon, participate, meeting the audience through various forms such as painting, installation, performance, and participatory programs.
◇ ‘Concert for All: Together, Spring’ (April 20 / Modoo Arts Theater)
On Disabled Persons’ Day, April 20, at 7:30 PM, the Modoo Arts Theater [[KSTERM:공연]] will host the commemorative [[KSTERM:공연]] ‘Concert for All: Together, Spring’. This [[KSTERM:국악]] performance is a crossover, based on traditional Korean music [[KSTERM:장애예술]], and features diverse performers, primarily [[KSTERM:장애예술]] artists, presenting a stage where tradition and modernity blend. A variety of performers, including Gayageum player Seon Young-sook, piano-byeongchang Choi Jun, Pansori singer Heo Jeong, Samulnori Ttamtti, Dream On Dance Company, Gyeonggi folk song singer [[KSTERM:국악]]won, and fusion [[KSTERM:국악]] band Akdan Gwangchil, will participate, and the [[KSTERM:국악]] event will be hosted by traditional Korean musician Oh Jeong-hae.
Although the three [[KSTERM:공연]] are composed of exhibitions and performances, they are connected as a single initiative in that they commemorate Disabled Persons’ Day [[KSTERM:장애예술]], looking at the history and present of [[KSTERM:장애예술]] together. From past records to today’s creations and stages, this [[KSTERM:장애예술]] initiative is significant in that it allows for a comprehensive view of the flow of [[KSTERM:장애예술]] in one place. [[KSTERM:문화]]
Bang Gwi-hee, Chairperson of the Korea Foundation for [[KSTERM:문화예술]] for the Disabled, stated, “It should not stop at commemorating Disabled Persons’ Day [[KSTERM:장애예술]], but become an opportunity to newly view Jang [[KSTERM:문화]] art within today’s culture. She added, “We hope this [[KSTERM:행사]] [[KSTERM:장애예술]] event connects disabled art with a wider audience and becomes a place to share its value. [[KSTERM:문화]]”
The Korea [[KSTERM:장애예술]] Arts Center is an institution that promotes projects to support creation [[KSTERM:장애예술]] and spread disabled Ye [[KSTERM:문화]] value and expand opportunities for cultural and artistic enjoyment. It has built a foundation for supporting disabled art by operating Daehak-ro Ieum Center, Modoo Art Space, and Modoo Ye [[KSTERM:장애예술]]. [[KSTERM:문화]]
