The Geumcheon Cultural Foundation announced that the Geumcheon-gu Gasan Library will operate ‘Hello Coding,’ an AI coding education program for local elementary school students. This program, planned to reflect the advanced information and communication (IT) industry characteristics of Gasan-dong, aims to cultivate children’s logical thinking and creative problem-solving skills through experiencing future technologies. It will be conducted as a short-term intensive camp starting from June 13, and participant recruitment begins on April 29.<\/p>\n

‘Hello Coding,’ an AI Coding Education Reflecting Local Characteristics, Launched<\/h2>\n

The Geumcheon Cultural Foundation is launching ‘Hello Coding,’ an AI coding education for elementary school students in Geumcheon-gu, starting June 13 at the Geumcheon-gu Gasan Library. This program was planned to actively reflect the characteristics of Gasan-dong in Geumcheon-gu, an area where the information and communication (IT) industry is developed. It aims to boost children’s interest in AI and coding, which are core competencies for future society, and help them easily and enjoyably access related technologies. One of the main goals of this education is to strengthen the library’s function to serve as a hub for future technology education, beyond being a simple space for knowledge acquisition.<\/p>\n

‘Hello Coding’ is designed to allow local children to directly experience future technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and coding, fostering logical thinking and creative problem-solving skills. Notably, it operates as a short-term intensive camp to maximize participants’ immersion and enhance the completeness of the education, thereby producing practical outcomes. In this way, the library is keeping pace with changes in the local community, providing essential educational opportunities for children and contributing to the nurturing of future talent.<\/p>\n

Systematic Curriculum, From ‘Science Camp’ to ‘Coding Competition’<\/h2>\n

The ‘Hello Coding’ program is largely composed of an ‘AI Science Camp Regular Class,’ a ‘Hello Coding Competition,’ and an ‘Awards Ceremony,’ allowing participants to experience a systematic process. The AI Science Camp, held for two days from June 13 to 14, offers two exciting courses: ‘GraviTrax’ and ‘Robot Production,’ through which participants can experience scientific principles and technological implementation simultaneously. The ‘GraviTrax’ course focuses on designing structures using principles of physical motion and planning algorithms, while the ‘Robot Production’ course involves building robots using joints and gears, along with laying the groundwork for coding algorithm design.<\/p>\n

In particular, the AI Science Camp helps expand children’s creative thinking through activities that plan structures and functions using artificial intelligence. The knowledge and skills acquired through the education will shine at the ‘Hello Coding Competition’ held on June 20. Participants in the competition will solve given missions within a limited time, design their own algorithms, and implement them into actual outcomes, which will be an important opportunity to develop real problem-solving abilities.<\/p>\n

Participation Opportunities and Expected Effects for Fostering Future Talent<\/h2>\n

The ‘Hello Coding’ program is open to students from 2nd to 6th grade in elementary schools located in Geumcheon-gu, recruiting a total of 60 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Students and parents who wish to participate can apply through the Geumcheon-gu Library website starting at 10 AM on April 29. As it’s first-come, first-served, interested students are encouraged to register quickly to not miss this valuable opportunity to experience future technologies.<\/p>\n

Seo Young-cheol, CEO of the Geumcheon Cultural Foundation, stated about this program, “We expect children to gain a deeper understanding of future technologies by directly experiencing AI and coding and participating in the competition.” He also expressed his ambition to “continue expanding future technology education programs that reflect local characteristics.” The ‘Hello Coding’ program at Geumcheon-gu Gasan Library is expected to be a significant stepping stone, not just education, but one that helps local children grow into key players in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Various awards, including the Geumcheon-gu Mayor’s Award, will be presented to outstanding participants at the awards ceremony on June 28.<\/p>\n
