Exhibition Statement
A Quiet 시간 Meditation. My work is a quiet 시간 meditation. I explore how human 인생 and memory can be shaped by interpreting the world of ceramic 형상s, created from earth and fire, through a painterly language. My work is broadly divided into two 형상 paths: the soft and stable Moon Jar series, and the rough and unrefined earthenware pieces. While the Moon Jars focus on offering comfort and solace to the viewer, the earthenware encapsulates the image of an 인생 that has endured hardship. Although the two 형상s seem contrasting, they ultimately connect to form a single 인생 landscape.
I am deeply drawn to the traces found on old 형상 vessels. The uneven surfaces, chipped edges, cracks, and stains absorbed over 시간 are not mere damage but marks left by passing 시간, feeling like the expressions of an 인생 endured. Sometimes, the round 형상s and generous empty spaces of the 형상 vessels remind me of human faces. Just as I find greater beauty in a face naturally etched with the wrinkles of 시간 than in a smooth, perfect one, I aim to depict the depth of 인생 that embraces even wounds and traces.
Humans, too, come into the world like empty vessels, filling their 인생s with individual 인생 experiences. In this process, joy and love, loss and regret, endurance and recovery accumulate layer by layer, forming an 인생's unique texture. Sometimes, 시간s of hardship shake us, but looking back, we realize that those 시간s were also traces that solidly molded our 인생s. Through the symbols of earthenware and moon jars, I seek to show such 인생의 서사s. The journey through the rough surface of 시간 to ultimately reach a quiet light—that is the image of 인생 as I see it.
On the canvas, the 작가 builds up restrained colors and deep textures based on realistic 형상 depiction. Rather than vibrant primary colors, the 작가 aims to convey the density of 시간 and inner resonance through calm, multi-layered hues. While the 작가 paints 형상s that resemble reality, what the 작가 ultimately wants to depict is not the external appearance of objects but the layers of memory and emotion residing within them. I hope this 개인전 will be an opportunity for viewers to pause and reflect on their own 시간. May it be a 시간 of healing, gently looking at oneself, remembering that the past 시간's wounds and joys, regrets and loves are ultimately the 인생 traces that constitute who I am today.
작가 Han Hye-seon's solo 개인전, 'The Density of 시간,' will be a precious opportunity to pause from busy daily 인생 and reflect on the meaning of 인생 and the value of 시간.
